Our Story — Where Science, Experience, Food, and Love Connect

Over twenty years ago, our family’s journey with therapeutic nutrition began out of necessity — not trend or curiosity.

When my son Alec was only two years old his seizures could not be controlled with medication alone. Guided by clinical research and pediatric neurologists, I implemented a therapeutic ketogenic diet. His seizures resolved, and today he remains seizure-free.

Years later, I faced my own diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. Drawing on the emerging science around neuroinflammation, mitochondrial function, and autoimmune triggers, I adopted the Dr. Terry Wahls Diet protocol — a nutrient-dense, therapeutic diet designed to support cellular health. Ten years later, I continue to live medication-free.

Those experiences cemented a powerful truth for our family: nutrition can profoundly support health, healing, and quality of life.

Our Beloved Pets

Then life handed us another lesson — not in a medical journal, but in heartbreak.

In 2021, we lost our beloved dog, Kia to autoimmune disease and in 2024 we lost our cat, George Lucas to cancer. And once again, we turned to questioning diets — and were shocked to learn more about the pet food industry.

What we discovered was staggering: ultra-processed formulas, inflammatory ingredients, questionable sourcing, and manufacturing far below what we would ever accept for our own bodies. Our pets who loved us with their whole hearts were being fed food that didn’t honor their biology or their worth.

So we made a decision:
If nutrition helped restore our lives, our pets deserved that same level of intention and care.

Kia and George Pet Kitchen and Barkery was born!

We partnered with a board-certified veterinary nutritionist to create gently cooked, complete and balanced recipes and clean, simple treats made with:

Our mission was born from lived experience, clinical science, and grief transformed into purpose. We don’t just talk about food … we eat and live this way everyday!

We do this for the animals we love — for Kia and George, and for every pet who wags its tail when you walk in the room.

Because nourishing them well isn’t indulgence. It’s stewardship. It’s science. It’s love in its most unconditional form.
